Tooth Extraction in Clifton Park, NY

Sometimes a tooth may become badly damaged or decayed without falling out. In such cases it may be necessary to have Dr. Neda Azadivatan extract the infected tooth. Removal can be easy or difficult depending on the situation. While tooth extraction is most commonly needed when a tooth has become badly decayed or damaged, it may also be needed in the following cases:

  • • Overcrowding
  • • Gum disease
  • • To make space for orthodontics
  • • When a tooth is badly fractured
  • • If the tooth cannot be restored
  • • To make room for a bridge or denture
  • • Cosmetic concerns

While there are a number of reasons that tooth extraction may be used, it is typically saved as a last resort when there are no other treatment options available.

Types of Tooth Extraction

There are two main types of tooth extraction that can be used for infected tooth removal. These include:

  • • Simple extractions – These are used on teeth that are visible within the mouth and require extraction because of decay or injury. During procedure, Dr. Azadivatan will use forceps to grasp and loosen the tooth using a back and forth motion. Once loosened, the tooth can easily be removed without trouble. Patients will be administered a local anesthesia before the procedure to reduce any discomfort.

  • • Surgical extractions – This method is used for teeth that have been broken off at the gum line or have not yet begun to protrude. During a surgical extraction, Dr. Azadivatan will need to cut and pull back the gums. This is necessary to allow access to the tooth so that it can be removed.
